Snowball fights and the Super Bowl

Snowball fights and the Super Bowl

Sister’s enjoying the game!

Yes, it is possible to celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord and the Super Bowl. Both were respected in their own ways here with the sisters, and since I am guessing most would be more interested in knowing how Sisters enjoy football… I will expound on this topic.
IMG_5775We started with divvying up jobs in the morning, “We need some to make ordeurves, Sr. Mary you’ve got the baked beans? We need some sisters to man the grill; who’s making the pulled pork? What about drinks (yes… sisters do drink beer! but many seem to prefer wine, must be a Cana thing). We need all this by 4pm hut, hut, hut, hike!” But what Super Bowl Sunday would be complete without a least half and hour of Adoration? That’s how we celebrate with the Salesians!  We invited some of the sisters from the Provincial House which is the house at the bottom of the property that houses some of the main Province offices but is also our retirement home.  Fun was enjoyed by all, except for those few Bronco fans.

Besides that, much of our time the past week and a half has been spent out in the snow.  We live on the same campus as the high school and there are many outdoor stairs to be cleared.  We have a snow blower for the sidewalks but when we get an inch of ice on top of the snow like last week, then we shovel the walkways too.  These times provide for good community bonding moments.  Here are a few highlights:

  • We offered to help shovel at the Provincial House and they brought us in for hot chocolate
  • Joan-Of-Arc-Leading-Her-Men-Holding-The-StandardWhile clearing off the cars, one of the sisters who is our teacher started an impromptu snowball fight.
  • While walking in deep snow, one of my fellow aspirants turns without warning and pushes me into a snow bank.  It is common knowledge that this aspirant is quite strong and against my petite frame I go flying (no worries, the snow was so deep and fluffy that I didn’t even hit ground).  Immediately one of the sisters that is with us springs into action and tries to knock this aspirant down in a very convincing St. Joan of Arc impression.
  • swordinthestonedisney1I break off an enormous icicle  and claim the nearest snowbank for God and Country!  It now gives the impression of the Sword and the Stone.
  • While walking to the gym, we notice the a small hill is completely iced over and we can walk on it without breaking through.  We take advantage of the moment and roll down.

While we haven’t made a snowman, snow angels, or gone sledding since our snowfalls in December, there seems to be another storm each week.  So stay tuned for more adventures of Aspirants In The Snow!!!
